Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel: 'Media wrong to focus on Romelu Lukaku'

Tuchel: 'Media wrong to focus on Lukaku'

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel feels that Romelu Lukaku does not deserve to be solely targeted for Chelsea's failure to score against Manchester City.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel has hit back at criticism of Romelu Lukaku, saying that his Chelsea side is not set up to "serve one player".

Tuchel was disappointed with Chelsea's offensive performance at Manchester City, revealing during his post-match comments that he felt Lukaku could have performed to a higher standard.

Weeks on from the Belgian suggesting that he is unhappy at Stamford Bridge, attention remains on the 28-year-old, who has netted just eight goals from 23 appearances this season.

However, Tuchel feels that it is unfair for him to frequently entertain questions on the summer arrival when other players have also not produced their best form on a consistent basis.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tuchel said: "We do everything to help Romelu. I think this is absolutely the wrong questions because it is focusing on one player. He is a key player and we want him to be a key player, but for me, this is the wrong approach.

"This is what we do constantly, for any player. This is a team sport. It is not about 10 players serving one player. This is not Chelsea, and it is not football. Every player is serving the team. That is the highest principle, and will never change."

Chelsea are next in action when they face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday evening.
