Preview: Queens Park Rangers vs. Swansea City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Queens Park Rangers will be looking to make it five Championship victories in a row when they welcome Swansea City to the English capital on Tuesday night.

The home side are currently fourth in the table, two points behind second-placed Bournemouth, while Swansea occupy 17th, picking up 31 points from their 24 league matches this term.

QPR have not played Premier League football since the 2014-15 season, but they are currently in a strong position to challenge for a return to the top flight, having picked up 47 points from their opening 26 league matches of the 2021-22 campaign to occupy fourth spot in the table.

Fulham are pulling clear at the summit, with the Cottagers now boasting an eight-point advantage over second-placed Bournemouth, but QPR are only two points off second position and will certainly have their eye on an automatic promotion spot back to the Premier League.

Mark Warburton's side will be full of confidence, having won each of their last five matches in all competitions, including their last four in the Championship against Bristol City, Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City.

On Saturday, Rangers appeared to be heading for a 1-1 draw against Coventry, only for Albert Adomah to come up with an 88th-minute winner for the visitors, who will now be bidding to record their 15th Championship victory of the campaign.

QPR were also victorious when they last locked horns with Swansea, running out 1-0 winners in Wales last April courtesy of a late effort from Lyndon Dykes.

Swansea, meanwhile, will enter the contest off the back of a 1-0 victory over Preston North End on Saturday, with Ryan Manning netting the only goal of the match in the 51st minute of the contest.

The Swans are currently down in 17th position in the Championship table, some 13 points off the playoffs, but they have only played 24 league matches this season due to a number of postponements, meaning that the club have four games in hand on sixth-placed Huddersfield Town.

As a result, the Welsh side are not out of the playoff picture despite their lowly spot in the table, and there is no question that a top-six finish is expected, having claimed fourth last term, ultimately losing 2-0 to Brentford in the final of the playoffs.

Russell Martin's side have only won one of their last five Championship matches, though, suffering three defeats in the process, while they have not been victorious on their travels in the league since November 24.

Swansea, as mentioned, lost 1-0 at home to QPR in their last meeting, but the Welsh club recorded a 2-0 victory when they visited the capital side last season.

Team News

Stefan Johansen's absence due to a minor knock allowed Andre Dozzell to feature in the starting XI against Coventry, and the latter could keep his spot for QPR if the Norwegian is unable to prove his fitness.

The home side will again be without the services of Seny Dieng, Ilias Chair and Osman Kakay due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

QPR did not pick up any fresh issues against Coventry, though, so it would not be a surprise to see the same starting XI, with the only change potentially coming in midfield if Johansen can overcome a knock.

As for Swansea, Martin named an unchanged lineup against Preston on Saturday, and the same XI could again take to the field for the clash with QPR.

Cyrus Christie and Joel Latibeaudiere should continue at wing-back, while Matt Grimes is expected to be partnered by Flynn Downes in midfield.

Head coach Martin has options for change in the final third, and there could be a full debut for Hannes Wolf, who appeared off the bench in the 1-0 home success over Preston.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Marshall; Dickie, Dunne, Barbet; Adomah, Dozzell, Field, Wallace; Willock; Dykes, Gray

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Hamer; Cabango, Naughton, Manning; Christie, Downes, Grimes, Latibeaudiere; Smith, Piroe, Wolf

We say: Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Swansea City

Swansea are more than capable of securing a positive result on Tuesday, with the Welsh outfit boasting a lot of quality, but it is difficult to look past QPR considering their recent form, and we are expecting the hosts to put another three points on the board to boost their promotion hopes.
