Lionel Messi starts for Barcelona for the first time since being named as the club's new captain in their Spanish Super Cup clash with Sevilla.

Lionel Messi has been named in the Barcelona starting lineup for their Spanish Super Cup clash with Sevilla this evening - the first match since the Argentine was named the club's new captain.

Messi replaced the departed Andres Iniesta as Barcelona's first-choice skipper, and is named in a front three alongside Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele for tonight's match in Morocco.

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde also includes Clement Lenglet for his competitive debut against his former club, with the Frenchman lining up alongside Gerard Pique, who announced his retirement from international football this week.

There is also a debut for Arthur Melo in midfield, although Arturo Vidal and Malcom are forced to wait for their Barcelona bows, with the former being named amongst the substitutes alongside World Cup finalists Ivan Rakitic and Samuel Umtiti.

Sevilla, meanwhile, make nine changes from their Europa League qualifying tie against Zalgiris on Thursday with summer signing Tomas Vaclik in goal and Ever Banega the only players to keep their places in the side.

Roque Mesa is among the players to come in for only his second start since his move from Swansea City, while Luis Muriel will lead the line for last season's beaten Copa del Rey finalists.

Sevilla: Vaclik; Mercado, Gomez, Kjaer, Escudero; Banega, Mesa; Navas, Sarabia, Vazquez; Muriel

Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pigue, Lenglet, Alba; Arthur, Busquets, Rafinha; Messi, Suarez, Dembele
Subs: Cillessen, Rakitic, Coutinho, Munir, Vidal, Umtiti, Miranda
