Tottenham Hotspur will be blocked by Rugby Football Union chiefs from playing their match against Manchester City at Twickenham Stadium, a report claims.

The Rugby Football Union will reportedly reject any approach made by Tottenham Hotspur to host one of their home matches at Twickenham.

Following the news that the grand opening of their new ground has been delayed due to safety concerns, the Lilywhites are now seeking a backup venue for their October 28 clash with Manchester City.

Wembley is also being used on the same day for the NFL showdown between Jacksonville Jaguars and the Philadelphia Eagles, with no plans in place for that fixture to be rescheduled.

Premier League chiefs will supposedly allow Tottenham to play home their home matches at three different venues in 2017-18, opening the prospect of playing away from Wembley and the as-of-yet-unopened 'Tottenham Hotspur Stadium'.

According to the Daily Mail, though, the RFU will not entertain the prospect of Twickenham being used as they intend to keep it a rugby-only venue.

The report suggests that Spurs are exploring the option of postponing the Man City match.
