Sailors attempt world record in memory of Olympic champion Andrew 'Bart' Simpson

Sailors from around the globe attempt to break the world record for the largest sailing race in 24 hours in memory of Olympic champion Andrew 'Bart' Simpson.

Over 10,000 sailors took part in a world record attempt on Sunday in memory of Olympic champion Andrew 'Bart' Simpson.

Winscar Reservoir in Dunford Bridge hosted 'Bart's Bash', which welcomed 728 clubs from around the world in a bid to stage the 'largest sailing race in 24 hours'.

Seventy sailors raced 57 boats around Winscar along a 1km course in memory of Simpson, who died at the age of 36 when his Artemis AC72 yacht capsized in San Francisco Bay in May last year.

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, which helps young people turn their lives around through sailing, organised the world-record attempt.
