Tries from Rhys Hanbury, Stefan Marsh, Jack Owens and Lloyd Owen held Widnes Vikings beat Wakefield Wildcats.

Widnes Vikings have beaten Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in an entertaining Super League game this afternoon.

The visitors got off to a perfect start as Rhys Hanbury combined with Cameron Phelps to score the first try after four minutes, and Stefan Marsh followed him over shortly after.

Jack Owens added his name to the try sheet a few minutes later after he intercepted a pass and ran half the pitch to touch the ball down, but the Wildcats hit back on the stroke of half time through Tom Johnstone.

However, the Vikings put the game to bed shortly after the break as Lloyd Owen powered his way over the try line, and Marsh added his second.

Matt Ryan pulled another back for Wakefield at the end of a quick break forward, before Dean Collis gave them hope with a splendid effort.

However, Widnes steadied the ship and saw out an important win.
