Result: Silver, bronze for England in men's vault
Team England's Courtney Tulloch and Dominick Cunningham take silver and bronze respectively in the men's vault event at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England have taken silver and bronze in the men's vault gymnastics event at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Australia's Christopher Remkes, buoyed on by the home crowd at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, threw down the gauntlet early on with an average score of 14.799 across his two attempts.

That was enough to put him firmly in the gold-medal position ahead of Canada's Rene Cournoyer, who provided the closest challenge with an average score of 14.233.

England's Courtney Tulloch, who picked up a gold medal in the rings yesterday, suffered a backwards stumble after landing on his first vault and the judges duly punished him for the execution, giving him a combined score of 14.333.

The 22-year-old delivered a perfect routine on his second vault, however, and scored the best mark of any gymnast in the event - a 15.000 - but the average of 14.666 was not enough to overthrow Remkes.

England's last hope arrived in the form of Dominick Cunningham, but with penalties on both attempts he could only manage an overall score of 14.333, enough for bronze.

Nile Wilson, James Hall, Taeja James, Kelly Simm and Alice Kinsella are all back in action later today for the final events of the artistics gymnastics programme.
