West Bromwich Albion skipper Darren Fletcher claims that his side deserved a point from their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

West Bromwich Albion captain Darren Fletcher has claimed that his side deserved to come away from their Premier League clash against Manchester City with a point.

The Baggies took the lead early at the Etihad Stadium, but goals from Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri saw the hosts turn the match around and come away with all three points.

Fletcher felt that his side should have been awarded a penalty during the game, but insists that they can be proud of their performance despite the result.

"It is a difficult one because I thought we did enough to take a point, we played really well. We showed what a side we can be. The Eliaquim Mangala incident was a penalty and everywhere else on the pitch it is a foul. To not get that was disappointing," the former Manchester United man told Sky Sports News.

"The game plan was to press when we could and get back into a compact shape. We felt we could find pockets of spaces and we got that. We stopped them playing out from the back and it worked well today. That is the level we need until the end of the season.

"We responded well to the penalty and it was nip and tuck. We created chances until the last minute. We made our fans proud today."

West Brom's next match sees them host Watford at The Hawthorns next Saturday.
