West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew has admitted that he has been impressed by the response from Jonny Evans and Gareth Barry following their off-field transgressions during a club trip to Barcelona.

Evans and Barry are two of four senior players - alongside Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill - alleged to have borrowed a taxi without permission after breaking a club curfew on a night out, driving it back to the team hotel at around 5.30am.

The quartet could yet face criminal proceedings and are under an internal investigation by the club, while Evans was stripped of the captaincy for Saturday's FA Cup defeat at the hands of Southampton.

However, both Evans and Barry started that FA Cup game and, while Pardew admitted that he was "furious" with their behaviour on the trip, he is eager to give them every chance to redeem themselves in the battle against relegation.

"Obviously I was furious with what happened but at the same time I've got to give the players the chance to remedy the situation," he told reporters.

"Gareth Barry was OK today but I thought Jonny was very good actually in the circumstances."

West Brom currently sit bottom of the Premier League table and seven points from safety, with Evans reportedly able to leave for just £3m in the summer if the Baggies are relegated.
