Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes that his players deserve praise for their performance against West Ham United, 48 hours on from their last outing.

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to being "unhappy" with Tottenham Hotspur's 1-1 draw against West Ham United, but insists that his players do not deserve any blame.

The Lilywhites had the better of the chances but had to settle for a point in Thursday's London derby at Wembley Stadium, as Son Heung-min and Pedro Obiang exchanged world-class goals in the final quarter of the match.

Spurs boss Pochettino believes that his side deserved to come away with victory, though he also acknowledged that West Ham defended well in what was the second game in three days for both teams.

"We only scored once - and the most difficult chance. I'm very pleased with the effort but very unhappy with the result," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "We deserved to win but football is like this and we have to accept that.

"We had to score and be effective in front of goal. To play and run like that after two games in 48 hours deserves credit. It was an amazing goal from Obiang, their first shot, it's difficult to accept.

"Normally we would finish 3-1, 4-1, 5-1 but it wasn't like this. The team was fresh and focused, it wasn't because of two games in 48 hours.

"We have different options to score, we tried different ways, we dominated but sometimes you don't get what you deserve. You need some luck to score. West Ham defended properly."

Tottenham, now four points adrift of Liverpool in fourth place, take on AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
