Kyle Edmund is through to the quarter-finals of the men's event at the Brisbane International, but Johanna Konta withdraws from the tournament through injury.

Kyle Edmund has progressed through to the Brisbane International quarter-finals with a three-set victory over Chung Hyeon.

However, Johanna Konta is out of the women's event after being forced to withdraw with a hip injury sustained during the latter stages of her last-eight clash with Elina Svitolina.

Edmund took the opening set on a tie-break, but his South Korean opponent soon began to dominate his second serve to force a decider.

The British number two regrouped, however, and one break of serve was enough in the last set to seal a 7-6 5-7 6-4 victory, setting up a clash with either Grigor Dimitrov or John Millman.

In the women's event, Konta had looked on course to progress to the semi-finals after breezing through the opener against third seed Svitolina.

However, with the score at 6-1 6-7 2-3, the British number one decided to retire hurt having previously undergone treatment on a hip problem.
