Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Presnel Kimpembe signs a new contract with the French champions until the summer of 2026, the club confirms.

Paris Saint-Germain have announced that French defender Presnel Kimpembe has signed a new contract at the Parc des Princes.

The 28-year-old - who has not made a single appearance this season due to injury - has extended his terms until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, by which time he will be 30 years old.

"I'm delighted to be continuing my story with the club I love. I would like to thank Paris Saint-Germain, the President, and the fans for their renewed faith. I hope to wear these colours again as soon as possible," Kimpembe told the official PSG website.

A product of the PSG youth system, Kimpembe joined the capital giants in 2005 and made his official debut just after his 19th birthday, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-1 win over Lens in October 2014.

The central defender has blossomed into a key figure for PSG over the past eight years, making 236 appearances for the club in all tournaments, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Kimpembe - who was a part of France's 2018 World Cup-winning squad and 2021 Nations League triumph - has collected 23 major honours at the Parc des Princes, including seven top-flight titles, as well as being named in the 2020-21 Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

However, the France international was restricted to just 15 appearances in the 2022-23 season due to fitness problems and has been sidelined since rupturing his Achilles tendon in February's 3-0 win over Marseille.

Kimpembe had already been experiencing problems with his Achilles before the 2022 World Cup, which he was forced to miss, but he made a brief comeback before suffering a complete tear.

Yet to make his first appearance since Luis Enrique took charge, PSG also confirmed that Kimpembe would undergo surgery on his lingering problem "in the next few days", but the club have not set an estimated comeback date.

Without the Frenchman in the ranks, Enrique once again deployed Marquinhos, Danilo Pereira and summer signing Milan Skriniar in a three-man backline for Wednesday's Ligue 1 clash with Metz, where a Kylian Mbappe brace and Vitinha effort propelled the champions to a comfortable 3-1 win.

The triumph over Les Grenats was also a momentous occasion for Mbappe's 16-year-old brother Ethan Mbappe, who made his senior debut for PSG as a late replacement for Manuel Ugarte.

The champions' victory saw them maintain their five-point lead over Nice at the top of the Ligue 1 table, and their first game after the winter break sees them take on Coupe de France holders Toulouse in the Trophee des Champions, scheduled for January 3 at the Parc des Princes.
