How Portugal could line up against Iceland

Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez will be forced to cope without Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos for Tuesday's Euro 2024 qualifying Group J affair with Iceland at Laugardalsvollur.

The in-demand 21-year-old picked up a thigh injury before Saturday's 3-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina and has been sent home from the camp to leave Martinez with 25 available troops.

With Ramos out of contention, a 200th cap should come the way of skipper Cristiano Ronaldo, who nearly marked his 199th appearance with a goal at the weekend only to see his header ruled out.

While Ronaldo could not stay onside, Bernardo Silva could, as the Manchester City treble-winner delicately chipped home the opening goal and should now join Ronaldo and Joao Felix in an unchanged frontline.

Raphael Guerreiro and Joao Cancelo should be in no danger of dropping out of the full-back positions, while Bruno Fernandes shone with two goals and an assist at the weekend and is a surefire starter in the middle.

Fernandes's first goal - a header - came via a pinpoint cross from Ruben Neves, who may have played his way into a start over Joao Palhinha, while Paris Saint-Germain's Renato Sanches was left out of the matchday squad entirely last time out.

Sanches was joined on the sidelines by uncapped defender Toti Gomes, who should be kept waiting for his debut as Antonio Silva, Ruben Dias and Danilo Pereira shield number one Diogo Costa, who is yet to concede a goal in Euro 2024 qualifying.
