The FA announces that Manchester United's Jadon Sancho has withdrawn from the England squad with a "minor knock".

Manchester United attacker Jadon Sancho has been forced to withdraw from England's September World Cup qualifiers through injury.

The 21-year-old linked up with the Three Lions for the international break but was ruled out of the recent 4-0 thrashing of Hungary due to what was described as a "minor knock" by Gareth Southgate.

However, the injury has now ruled Sancho out of England's upcoming clashes with Poland or Andorra, but the attacker is expected to recover in time for the resumption of the Premier League.

A statement by the FA read: "Jadon Sancho will play no part in England's forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Poland. The forward picked up a minor knock in training earlier this week which ruled him out of the 4-0 victory in Hungary.

"Following further assessment, the 21-year-old has returned to his club and is expected to recover in time for Manchester United's fixture with Newcastle United on Saturday 11 September.

"Gareth Southgate now has a 23-man squad at his disposal for Sunday's match against Andorra at Wembley Stadium connected by EE (5pm kick-off)."

Despite Sancho's withdrawal, Southgate is expected to shuffle the attacking pack considerably for Sunday's visit of Andorra, with Bukayo Saka, Jesse Lingard and Patrick Bamford all vying for starts.

Sancho has featured in all three of United's opening Premier League games this season but is still waiting for his first goal contribution under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
