Manchester United could potentially seal a £40m move for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic next week, according to a report in the press.

Manchester United could reportedly complete the £40m signing of Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic next week.

Matic, 28, played an integral role for Jose Mourinho during his most recent title-winning season at Chelsea, leading recent rumours to suggest that the Portuguese coach is keen to bring the Serbian international to Old Trafford this summer.

After already signing Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof, Mourinho has since admitted that he would still like to bring both a midfielder and a winger to Manchester during the current window.

According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho could seal the capture of Matic as early as next week as Chelsea have finally consented to allowing the holding man to move to their Premier League rivals, although Blues boss Antonio Conte would ideally like to bring in another midfielder before the deal is done.

Matic did not travel with the Blues on their recent tour of China, while Conte has also brought in highly-rated French midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
