Liverpool are leading the race to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to a report.

Liverpool are reportedly the favourites to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar this summer.

The 23-year-old is expected to leave his French side in the current market, and a number of clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, have been credited with an interest.

However, according to Le10Sport, a move to Liverpool remains the 'greatest probability' for the midfielder, who could potentially be available for a fee in the region of £22m.

The Reds are looking to sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum and have thus far been frustrated in their pursuits of a number of other midfield targets.

Aouar has scored 32 times and registered 31 assists in 170 appearances for Lyon in all competitions, including eight goals and four assists in 33 outings last term.

The midfielder was thought to be valued by his French club in excess of £50m last summer, but his current deal now has less than two years to run, and Les Gones are thought to be under pressure to raise funds.
