Phil Foden 'agrees lucrative new Man City contract'

Manchester City attacker Phil Foden reportedly agrees a new six-year contract at the Etihad with a bumper pay rise up to £250,000 per week.

Manchester City attacker Phil Foden has reportedly committed himself to a new long-term contract at the Etihad.

The 22-year-old has established a reputation as one of the world's brightest young players after coming through the youth ranks since joining Man City in 2009.

Foden has established himself as a regular starter under Pep Guardiola and boasts 48 goals and 35 assists from 179 outings for the Premier League champions in all tournaments.

The England international won his fourth top-flight title in the 2021-22 season, and he has also collected four EFL Cups, one FA Cup and two Community Shields at senior level.

Foden's most recent contract extension at the Etihad came in the winter of 2018, and his existing terms are due to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Now, Football Insider reports that Man City are on the verge of confirming a new contract for Foden after reaching an agreement in principle over lucrative fresh terms.

The Citizens youth product can reportedly expect a bumper pay rise with his renewal, with his weekly salary set to rise to a mammoth £250,000 per week.

Foden would therefore move closer to the club's top-earning players in Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Braut Haaland, and the deal is a six-year agreement until 2028.

The report adds that City and Foden reached an agreement a while ago, and the only thing left is for the club to confirm the player's new deal, which should not be too far away.

The 22-year-old has made the first XI in all seven of City's Premier League games so far this term, coming up with two goals and two assists in those seven outings.

Foden also found the back of the net in his side's Champions League opener with Sevilla earlier this month and would become the latest big name to commit himself to a new deal at the Etihad.

Extensions were announced for Riyad Mahrez and Rodri back in July, which came after veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson had also agreed to stay on for another season.

Joao Cancelo also signed a new five-year deal in February, while Ederson, Cole Palmer, Ruben Dias, De Bruyne and John Stones have all put pen to paper since the start of 2021.

Man City will endeavour to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal when they meet Manchester United on October 2 in the Manchester derby following the international break.
