Manchester City are reportedly keen to offer 18-year-old James McAtee a new contract after impressing in Premier League 2, and gaining comparisons to Phil Foden.

Manchester City have reportedly opened contract talks with 18-year-old James McAtee, who is tipped to be the next academy graduate to break into the first team.

McAtee has been compared to Phil Foden for his promising performances in the Man City Under-23 side, last season scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 23 Premier League 2 appearances.

In comparison, Foden managed six goals and five assists in his 2017-18 Premier League 2 campaign.

The youngster can play in either an attacking midfield role or further back as a holding midfielder, and has also featured on the wing and as a striker during his development throughout the City academy.

Football Insider reports that Pep Guardiola and Man City are keen to reward the 18-year-old with a new deal which would extend his stay at the club, with his first professional contract that he is currently on due to expire in two years.

Foden is an example to youngsters in the youth system at Man City that there is a pathway into the first team and McAtee is sure to be one to look out for in the future as he hopes to follow in Foden's footsteps.

Born in Salford in 2002, McAtee has represented England at youth level and capped off the season just finished with a Premier League 2 winners' medal.
