Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that he has been delighted with Bernardo Silva's form during the 2017-18 campaign.

The Citizens paid Monaco in the region of £43m to sign the Portugal international in last summer's transfer window.

Silva has scored nine times and registered 11 assists in 52 appearances for the Premier League champions this term, and Guardiola has said that the 23-year-old will stay at the Etihad Stadium for as long as he is at the club.

"When we sign a player we don't have the certainty that it's going to work but I think we made it right. As long as I'm a coach at Manchester City he's not going to go anywhere," Guardiola told reporters.

"Maybe he didn't play as much as we wanted this season but he has been an amazing part of the team and its success. He has an amazing quality, he connects perfectly the way we want to play.

"And as a person, what can I say? I always enjoy working with good people and he is one of them. He has an amazing relationship with his teammates, coaching staff, everyone. It is difficult to find anyone in that [regard] than Bernardo Silva.

"I'm really happy for his season and hopefully next season he will be even better. I wish him the best with Portugal at the World Cup."

Silva has managed six goals and five assists in 34 Premier League appearances this term.
