Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has hailed Pep Guardiola as the best manager in world football following his side's record-breaking run to the Premier League title this season.

City's 1-0 win over Southampton on Sunday saw them become the first English team to break the 100-point mark in a top-flight campaign, having already chalked up more wins and goals than any other team has managed in Premier League history.

City's title-winning margin of 19 points is also unprecedented in the Premier League era and, after a trophiless first season in England, Kompany believes that Guardiola has now proven himself as the best there is.

"We had a good season last season but these things take time," Kompany told Sky Sports News.

"Pep got the backing he needed to get the players he wanted and we were really receptive to what he had to say.

"Ultimately I think he's the best manager in the world and with good players, he did great things."

Man City also won the EFL Cup to match their double from the 2013-14 campaign.
