Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: 'We forgot to attack in Basel clash'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says that his team "forgot to attack" in their defeat to Basel in the Champions League.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that his team failed to perform in the final third during their defeat to Basel in the Champions League.

The North-West outfit were beaten 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday evening.

City still managed to progress into the quarter-finals, though, thanks to the club's 4-0 advantage from the first leg in Switzerland.

After the match, Guardiola told reporters: "The first half was quite good but in the second half we forgot to attack, we forgot to play. When we pass the ball we do it to move through the opponents to attack - just to pass the ball for itself is nothing and the second half was really really poor.

"It is not easy to play with a 4-0 lead. We tried, we spoke about that and I think what we showed in the first half we showed we wanted to win the game. We created a lot of chances and we were good.

"But after 1-1 in the second half, it didn't happen. We just passed for itself and when that happens, that is not football."

City are on course to win the treble as they are already EFL Cup champions and are four wins away from sealing the Premier League title.
