Preview: Luton Town vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Luton Town and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Luton Town play host to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening looking to record their third successive victory in the Championship.

In sharp contrast, Huddersfield suffered their seventh defeat of the campaign at the weekend, leaving the Terriers in 23rd position in the standings.

Although Luton started the new campaign like a team who were suffering a hangover from missing out on promotion last year, the Hatters are now very much back on an upward trajectory.

As many as 14 points have been collected from their last seven fixtures, the latest of four wins during that period coming at Hull City on Friday night.

Both goals came in the opening half of the contest on Humberside, Henri Lansbury becoming the sixth player to register one goal this season while Carlton Morris dominates the scoring charts with six strikes.

At some stage, Nathan Jones will hope that his team stop becoming overly reliant on the summer arrival, but positives can be taken from different players making contributions in the final third, even if it is sporadically.

Despite their progress up the table, Luton have prevailed in just one of their six league matches at Kenilworth Road this season.

After the arrival of Mark Fotheringham earlier in the week, Huddersfield supporters would have had high hopes of a strong showing against Reading.

However, what they witnessed was the exact opposite, the Terriers being 2-0 down at half time before going on to lose 3-1 to the Royals with a consolation goal coming in the final minute.

Given the form of Reading, Fotheringham will not necessarily be discouraged at this stage, but he will now recognise the size of the task in front of him at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield have now lost each of their four away matches in the Championship and the odds of that run ending at Luton appear slim unless they find solutions at both ends of the pitch.

At a time when just one clean sheet has been recorded this season, Huddersfield have also gone five games without scoring more than once in a single match.

Team News

With Reece Burke suffering an injury during the first half at Hull, Gabriel Osho is expected to start in the back three for Luton.

The remainder of the side could stay the same, although Morris is one booking away from having to serve a ban for five yellow cards.

There will likely be more alterations to the Huddersfield XI with Fotheringham hinting at the weekend that Jonathan Hogg would return to the team on Tuesday.

Danny Ward may return to the starting lineup, potentially in a wider area depending on whether Jordan Rhodes remains in the team, while Manchester City loanee Luke Mbete is also pushing for an opportunity.

Tino Anjorin is again expected to miss out on a place in the squad due to glandular fever.

Luton Town possible starting lineup:
Horvath; Osho, Lockyer, Potts; Bree, Campbell, Lansbury, Bell; Clark; Adebayo, Morris

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Nicholls; Turton, Lees, Helik, Nakayama; Russell, Hogg; Ward, Rudoni, Thomas; Rhodes

We say: Luton Town 2-0 Huddersfield Town

If their performance on Saturday is anything to go by, Huddersfield have plenty of work to do under Fotheringham in order to turn things around. That may not come by Tuesday with Luton the clear favourites to prevail relatively comfortably in front of their own supporters.
