Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that the Reds hold all the aces over Philippe Coutinho's future amid rumours of a switch to Barcelona.

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that the Reds hold the power over Philippe Coutinho's future.

The Brazil international is thought to be on Barcelona's radar, with Liverpool reportedly rejecting a £90.4m offer earlier this week.

Rodgers, who signed Coutinho from Inter Milan for £8.5m in 2013, believes that his old club will have the final say on whether the midfielder remains at Anfield.

The Celtic boss told Sky Sports News: "He's always going to have other clubs that will want him but Liverpool don't have to sell if they don't want to.

"Philippe Coutinho is a world-class player, but the power and the position is with Liverpool.

"He really enjoys it at Liverpool, he's got great supporters and a great manager so I'm sure he will be very happy there. He's signed a new deal but time will tell."

Coutinho is believed to be one of Barca's top targets to replace Neymar, who left the Camp Nou to join Paris Saint-Germain in a world record £200m transfer earlier this month.
