A report claims that Liverpool have closely monitored Christian Pulisic after identifying the Borussia Dortmund ace as the ideal man to replace Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool have reportedly earmarked Borussia Dortmund ace Christian Pulisic as their top target if Philippe Coutinho departs for Barcelona.

Brazil international Coutinho is said to be at the centre of talks between the two clubs over a summer move, as Barca look to fill the void left by Neymar's switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

As part of the transfer merry-go-round, The Sun reports that Pulisic is the man Liverpool want to replace Coutinho should he get his wish and leave in the coming days.

Reds scouts have watched the 18-year-old up close, it is claimed, most recently seeing him produce a solid display in Dortmund's penalty-shootout defeat to Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup at the weekend.

Pulisic is understood to be valued at around the £30m mark, while Coutinho's transfer to Barcelona will likely be worth closer to £80m up front.
