A report claims that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants to sign Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur, while Ryan Bertrand is a back-up option if that deal falls through.

Antonio Conte has reportedly informed Chelsea chiefs that he wants Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur to bolster his defensive options for the new season.

The Blues fell short in their attempt to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus earlier this summer, despite supposedly offering up to £60m for the Brazil international.

Conte has since turned his attention elsewhere, though with his side's Premier League title defence getting underway in three days' time he has still yet to bring in any specialised wing-back cover.

After making it clear that he is not happy with his side's transfer dealings to date, The Sun reports that the ex-Italy coach has now urged his bosses to tempt Spurs with an offer for Rose, whose wages will more than double at Stamford Bridge.

It is claimed that, should Tottenham reject Chelsea's approach, their former full-back Ryan Bertrand - now established at Premier League level with Southampton - will instead be targeted in the remaining weeks of the window.

Valencia's Britihs coach Gary Neville gestures from the sideline during the UEFA Champions League football match Valencia CF vs Olympique Lyonnais at the Mestalla stadium in Valencia on December 9, 2015.
