Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has suffered a serious-looking injury during this afternoon's Premier League clash with Leeds United.

The 18-year-old had established himself in Jurgen Klopp's first-team plans at the start of the 2021-22 season following a productive loan spell at Blackburn Rovers last term.

However, having been selected in three of Klopp's four starting lineups so far this season, the youngster now looks set for a spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off at Elland Road.

Elliott was on the end of a challenge from Pascal Struijk which left him in agony on the floor, with Mohamed Salah immediately and hurriedly calling for medical staff having been close by.

Images appeared to show a serious break of either the leg or ankle, with players from both sides visibly distressed at the incident.

Referee Craig Pawson initially did not blow up for a foul, but on review showed Struijk a red card for the challenge.

Medical staff were quickly on the scene and, after a few minutes of treatment, Elliott was carried off the field, clapping fans as he went.

Elliott's selection in the XI at Elland Road saw him become the youngest midfield player to ever start three league games in a row for Liverpool.
