Jamie Vardy's record vs. Liverpool

Ahead of Leicester City's Premier League clash with Liverpool on Monday night, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Vardy's record against the Reds.

Aiming to record a third successive win over Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, relegation-threatened Leicester City host their Merseyside counterparts in Monday's Premier League affair.

Dean Smith's side, who were crushed 5-3 by Fulham last Monday, have dropped to 19th in the table ahead of the visit of Liverpool thanks to Leeds United's 2-2 draw with Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Foxes memorably went down 2-1 at Anfield in December thanks to a pair of Wout Faes own goals, but each of their last two meetings with Liverpool at the King Power have ended in victory, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Jamie Vardy.

The 36-year-old's powers may be waning this season - just three goals and four assists in 34 games is evidence of that - but his penchant for goals against the 'Big Six' offers Leicester a glimmer of hope ahead of Monday's game.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Vardy's record against the Reds as Leicester take to the King Power turf for the penultimate time this season.

A regular occupant in the nightmares of Liverpool fans, Vardy has racked up a total of 10 goals and one assist from his 16 meetings with the Reds in all competitions, albeit while winning just four and losing 10 of those games.

Liverpool are one of just two sides that Vardy had reached double figures against - only versus Arsenal (11) has he found the back of the net on more occasions in a Leicester jersey.

Furthermore, eight of Vardy's 10 goals against Liverpool have come in the Premier League, where Andy Cole (11) and Harry Kane (9) are the only players to boast more goals versus the Merseyside giants.

Vardy failed to fire in either of Leicester's two meetings with Liverpool in 2014-15 - although he did claim his sole assist in a 2-2 Anfield draw that year - before netting both of his side's goals in a 2-0 King Power win during their 2015-16 title-winning season.

Vardy's first strike in that game - a looping volley over the head of Simon Mignolet - was hailed as "unbelievable" by then-manager Claudio Ranieri, who was also in the dugout to witness the Englishman net a consolation goal in a 4-1 Anfield loss during the start of the 2016-17 season.

In Craig Shakespeare's first game in charge since replacing Ranieri, Vardy netted another home brace against Liverpool in a 3-1 win in February 2017, before the Reds did the double over the Foxes in 2017-18; Vardy still netted in both games, though.

The ex-England international could not take part in a 2-1 home defeat in September 2018 due to suspension, and his five-game scoring streak against Liverpool came to an end in a 1-1 draw later that season.

Goals against Jurgen Klopp's men have since been increasingly difficult to come by for Vardy, who has netted only once in his last seven Premier League affairs with Liverpool in a 3-1 King Power triumph in February 2021.

However, the 36-year-old was on target twice in last year's EFL Cup thriller at Anfield - which Leicester ultimately lost on penalties - and despite his advancing years, a Reds defence still prone to the odd lapse in concentration ought to have their wits about them on Monday.
