Adam Lallana says that he and his Liverpool teammates almost executed Jurgen Klopp's gameplan against Borussia Dortmund 'perfectly' following their 1-1 draw.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has claimed that last night's Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund was almost a "perfect execution" of Jurgen Klopp's gameplan.

The Reds left Germany on Thursday night with a 1-1 draw and a crucial away goal scored by Divock Origi in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Mats Hummels equalised for the Bundesliga outfit three minutes after the restart, but Lallana is hopeful that Liverpool can get the job done at Anfield.

"It was almost the perfect execution of his gameplan," Lallana told Goal.com. "If we'd won 1-0 or 2-1 it would have been massive, but we did very well in a tough test.

"A lot of energy was used, especially in the second half when they held onto the ball well. It was a big effort from us, but we also had some really good chances during the game.

"There's maybe a little disappointment that we didn't score again since we created some good openings, but they're going to have to come at us at Anfield next week as they go after an away goal too and hopefully that will suit us well. We knew they'd be dominant, especially in possession but we were ready to pick off their mistakes and exploit them in behind."

The second leg is scheduled for next Thursday on Merseyside.
