Ex-Liverpool star Steven Gerrard: 'Leroy Sane goal should have stood'

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard admits that Leroy Sane's disallowed goal against his former club should have stood.

Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has admitted that Leroy Sane's disallowed goal during the Reds' 2-1 win at Manchester City should not have been ruled out.

The Sky Blues thought that they had reduced the deficit in the Champions League quarter-final clash to 3-2 on aggregate when the German found the net, only for the linesman to controversially raise his flag.

Speaking to BT Sport during and after the game, Gerrard added his voice to claims that the goal should have stood.

"They're the things that need to go in your favour. As soon as I saw it and I saw the linesman flagging I thought Liverpool got away with one there," he said.

"It should have stood and then you wonder what could have been from a City point of view.

"We were speaking about winning the Champions League off air and Liverpool could look back to this sort of moment that goes in their favour if they go all the way."

Liverpool progressed to the semi-finals of the competition by five goals to one on aggregate.
