Sadio Mane gave Senegal an early lead but before the break, Takashi Inui curled the ball into the far bottom corner to get Japan back on level terms.
Senegal regained the advantage through Moussa Wague but substitute Keisuke Honda found a second leveller for Japan as both teams boosted their hopes of progression from Group H.
