Inter Milan's remaining fixtures ahead of Serie A restart

Ahead of Serie A's restart this weekend, Sports Mole looks at the remaining fixtures facing title challengers Inter Milan.

While Inter Milan have spent the campaign sitting in the top three of the Serie A standings, they have plenty of work to do if they wish to remain as challengers to Juventus and Lazio.

Before football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Antonio Conte witnessed his side suffer back-to-back defeats to their rivals, leaving the club nine points adrift of top spot.

On a positive note, I Nerazzurri have a game in hand on the teams above them, and a favourable restart provides Conte and his players with the chance to keep up the pressure.

Inter return to action at home to Sampdoria on June 21, before Juve and Lazio have played, and that is quickly followed by another game at San Siro versus Sassuolo.

The next triple-header, against Parma, Brescia and Bologna respectively, provides more opportunities to accumulate points before a trip to Hellas Verona, who boast the best defensive record outside of the top three.

After two more games against bottom-half-of-the-table teams in Torino and SPAL, Inter visit Stadio Olimpico to go up against opponents in Roma who can still catch Conte's men with a strong end to the campaign.

While Conte will expect his team to deliver against Fiorentina and Genoa respectively, the Italian will be more realistic about the two games which close Inter's season.

A San Siro encounter with Napoli and a trip to fourth-placed Atalanta BC means that Inter can ill-afford many slip-ups before those two games, which may prove hugely significant when it comes to final placings and European qualification.
