France boss Didier Deschamps rues his team's missed chances in Tuesday night's World Cup qualifier against Belarus, which finished goalless.

France boss Didier Deschamps has revealed his frustration at his team's inability to take their chances in Tuesday night's 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Belarus.

The Euro 2016 finalists had a number of opportunities in the second 45 minutes of the Group A clash, but could not find a route past inspired Belarusian goalkeeper Andrey Gorbunov as the match finished goalless.

"We should have done better in the first period," Deschamps told Canal Plus. "Then, in the second half, we created a lot of chances but came up against a goalkeeper who made some wonderful stops. But that's football.

"In our last game in Italy (a 3-1 friendly victory) we had four chances and scored three times. This time we failed to capitalise. Our second period was much better, with more movement and speed.

"But we can always do better. It was enough to win tonight. But when we do not put finish our chances, we cannot win. We left two points behind and there will be more complicated matches to come."

Next up for France is a home match against Bulgaria on October 7.
