France striker Olivier Giroud says that he wants to make history ahead of tonight's Euro 2016 opener against Romania.

France and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has claimed that he wants to make history on the pitch ahead of tonight's Euro 2016 opener.

The 29-year-old was booed by his own fans despite scoring in a 3-2 victory over Cameroon last week.

The forward has netted seven goals in as many international matches, and is likely to lead the line in tonight's opening group match against Romania at the Stade de France.

"My brother had a saying which is very important for me - 'The construction of the road to success is never quite finished'," Giroud told beIN Sport. "[This is] even more true in football, where after every weekend people can diss you or congratulate you.

"I have to prove myself, to show my desire to score goals and to win titles and leave a mark in history. That's what I want, to make my family and the people close to me proud."

France will also face Albania and Switzerland in the group stage.
