France boss Didier Deschamps calls on his players to keep 'cool heads' when they take to the field against Romania in Euro 2016 on Friday night.

France boss Didier Deschamps has called on his players to keep 'cool heads' when they take to the field against Romania in Euro 2016's opening fixture on Friday night.

Hosts France have been installed as the pre-tournament favourites and will be expected to overcome Romania when the tournament officially gets underway in the French capital.

Deschamps, however, is not too interested in the pre-match talk and has called on his players to 'distance themselves from the hype' surrounding the competition's opening fixture.

"Each player experiences these matches in a different fashion. What's important is you mustn't focus too early and try to play the game before it actually begins," Deschamps told reporters.

"Everything that comes before mustn't influence our mindset as we go out on the field tomorrow night. You need to just have these butterflies in your stomach before an important game because we haven't achieved anything yet.

"We need to get into that mindset without looking at any permutations - without pressure, without feeling fragility. We mustn't make a mountain out of a molehill. We need to distance ourselves from [the hype]. It's not going to affect our preparations. We've been preparing for two years for Friday, June 10."

France will also take on Albania and Switzerland in the group stage of Euro 2016.
