England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford: 'I won't take risks'

Pickford: 'I won't take risks in goal'

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says that he looks to avoid taking risks with the ball when representing Everton and England.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has suggested that he has no intention of taking any risks on the ball while representing Everton and England.

A number of Premier League managers like their number one to be comfortable on the ball and play it on the ground, while Liverpool stopper Alisson Becker made a high-profile mistake against Leicester City earlier this month.

However, Pickford has indicated that he works on his 'game management' at certain periods in matches and knows when to keep things simple.

The 24-year-old is quoted by BT Sport as saying: "I try not to [do tricks] because I don't want to be caught with it. It's a risk.

"If it comes off it looks good and if it doesn't. It's a style of play and I think that's the way Liverpool want to play as well. You've got to give that one where mistakes will happen and it's about not making the next one.

"It's all about managing the game and not making it again in the same game I'd say. It's going to happen."

Pickford is likely to start when England face Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday evening.
