Preview: Denmark Women vs. Finland Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Women's European Championship clash between Denmark Women and Finland Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After losing 4-0 to Germany in their opening game of the Women's Euros 2022, Denmark Women will be looking to clinch their first victory of the tournament when they face Finland Women on Tuesday.

Finland are also aiming to claim their first win of the group stage after losing 4-1 to Spain in their tournament opener.

Denmark endured a disappointing evening on Friday when they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to eight-time European champions Germany.

Despite trailing at half time in their opening game, Denmark would have believed they had a chance to clinch a positive result, but second half goals from Lea Schuller, Lena Lattwein and Alex Popp helped Germany cruise to three points.

Having lost their last two internationals, Lars Sondergaard's side will want to returning to winning ways against the lowest-ranked side in their group.

With the top two in the group set to go head-to-head on Tuesday, Denmark know that three points would keep their hopes alive of reaching the quarter-finals.

They will feel confident about their chances of clinching a win after beating Finland in three of the last four meetings.

Meanwhile, Finland will also be looking to claim their first victory of the tournament when they face Denmark on matchday two.

Anna Signeul's side opened their campaign with a 4-1 defeat to Spain, despite taking the lead in their tournament opener.

Finland could not have wished for a better start, with Linda Sallstrom opening the scoring inside 60 seconds, but Spain turned the contest on its head before the break courtesy of goals from Irene Paredes and Aitana Bonmati.

Lucia Garcia and Mariona Caldentey struck in the second half, condemning Finland to a third consecutive defeat.

After losing their opening game, Finland will be aware that they have their work cut out if they are to progress from the group that features two teams in the form of Germany and Spain who occupy places in the top seven of the FIFA World Rankings.

Team News

Denmark will be without the services of Kathrine Kuhl, who will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off against Germany.

Despite conceding four in the group opener, Denmark are expected to persist with a back three of Rikke Sevecke, Stine Pedersen and Katrine Veje.

After featuring as a second-half substitute on Friday, Mille Gejl could replace Rikke Madsen in the forward line.

As for Finland, Essi Sainio is set to come into the starting lineup after coming off the bench at half time against Spain.

Sainio is expected to feature in midfield alongside Emmi Alanen, Evelina Summanen and Ria Oling.

Meanwhile, Sallstrom will be looking to add to the goal that she scored in the tournament opener when she partners Sanni Franssi in the forward line.

Denmark Women possible starting lineup:
Christensen; Sevecke, Pedersen, Veje; Thomsen, Troelsgaard, Junge-Pedersen, Svava; Gejl, Harder, Bruun

Finland Women possible starting lineup:
Korpela; Hyyrynen, Westerlund, Pikkujamsa, Koivisto; Sainio, Alanen, Summanen, Oling; Sallstrom, Franssi

SM words green background

We say: Denmark Women 3-1 Finland Women

Both teams will be desperate to clinch all three points after struggling in their respective group openers, but with previous head-to-head results favouring Denmark, we think that Songergaard's side will prove too strong for Finland on Tuesday.
