The Premier League will suspend the next two weekends of fixtures due to the latest coronavirus developments, according to a report.

The Premier League will reportedly suspend the next two weekends of fixtures due to the latest developments surrounding the coronavirus.

An announcement on Thursday afternoon insisted that this weekend's top-flight matches would go ahead despite Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers revealing at his press conference that there had been a coronavirus scare in their camp.

However, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta tested positive for the respiratory condition on Thursday night, which led to the Premier League announcing that an emergency meeting would be held on Friday morning.

Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi has since been diagnosed with the same condition, and according to The Mirror, Premier League bosses will now postpone the next two weekends of fixtures.

The video meeting in question will take place at 10.30am UK time, where it is expected to be agreed that there will be a break until April 4 before considering the possibility of playing behind closed doors.

The report claims that UEFA also want to delay Euro 2020 for a year to allow for space to complete the season, while England's upcoming matches against Italy and Denmark are likely to be postponed.

Coronavirus has played havoc with the sporting calendar across the world, and it is expected that the EFL will follow the Premier League's lead in cancelling matches.
