Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Watford

Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Watford.

Arsenal square off against Watford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon looking to end the campaign in eighth position in the standings.

After suffering a surprise 1-0 reverse at the hands of Aston Villa in midweek, the Gunners can no longer finish in seventh spot, ensuring that they will conclude the season behind North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

With the FA Cup final against Chelsea on the horizon, Mikel Arteta has a wide range of injury issues ahead of welcoming the Hornets to the Emirates Stadium.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's fitness concerns in the days leading up to their final top-flight fixture of the season.

Mesut Ozil

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: July 26 (vs. Watford)

Ozil has not featured since the return of football last month, with a back problem recently keeping him on the sidelines. However, at a time when Arteta may choose to rest players, the playmaker may be given an outing at the weekend.

Shkodran Mustafi

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

During the closing stages of the FA Cup semi-final triumph over Manchester City, Mustafi sustained an issue with his thigh. Although it was initially put down to cramp, the German has now been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Reiss Nelson

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: July 26 (vs. Watford)

Nelson also missed out against Villa, leading to uncertainty over whether the winger will be available for the meeting with the Hornets. Like with Mustafi, Arteta may not take any risks on the Englishman ahead of the showdown with Chelsea.

Gabriel Martinelli

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Martinelli will not feature again this season after undergoing surgery on his left knee last month. The Brazilian has been ruled out until at least 2021, although he will be hoping to return to training before the end of the year.

Bernd Leno

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Leno has been on the sidelines since picking up an injury to his right knee during the defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last month. Even if the German was able to recover in time for next month's FA Cup final, Arteta is unlikely to take any risks on the goalkeeper.

Pablo Mari

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Mari picked up a serious ankle injury during Arsenal's defeat against Man City last month. The centre-back is unlikely to return to action until the closing weeks of September at the earliest.

Calum Chambers

Chambers has been absent since the turn of the year after sustaining a serious knee injury. The versatile defender is working towards a potential return in September or October.
