Jacob Peters happy to be in tough heat

Team England swimmer Jacob Peters says that he was happy to be drawn alongside Ben Proud and Chad le Clos in the heats of the 50m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England swimmer Jacob Peters has told Sports Mole that he was happy to be drawn alongside compatriot Ben Proud and South African Chad le Clos in the heats of his 50m butterfly this morning.

Peters initially looked to have finished third behind those two, only for Proud to be disqualified after pipping Le Clos to the wall in a new Games-record time.

Seventeen-year-old Peters was reluctant to comment on the drama surrounding his teammate - one of the favourites alongside Le Clos going into the event - but believes that his own performance points to a successful time on the Gold Coast.

"A lot of drama - I don't want to comment on that. I'm happy with my race, I've got a PB from the heats, so showing good things for the rest of the week," he told Sports Mole.

"I saw [the difficult draw] as a good thing - at the start of a race, you can't really get much worse than that during the week. So having done that race, I feel a lot better."

Peters will take part in the final of the 50m butterfly this evening, before competing in the 100m and 200m fly later in the Games.
