Celtic have announced that former midfielder Liam Miller has died at the age of 36.

Miller was diagnosed with cancer late last year and after a period of treatment in the United States, he passed away on Friday.

Social media has been inundated with tributes for Miller, with Stiliyan Petrov and Kevin Kilbane both taking to Twitter to comment on their former teammate.

Miller began his career with Celtic during the 1999-2000 campaign, making 44 appearances for the Scottish giants before earning a move to Manchester United.

The Irishman would make 22 outings for the Premier League side before later going on to represent Leeds United, Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers, Hibernian, Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne City, Cork City and Wilmington Hammerheads.

Miller also earned 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland between 2004 and 2009.
