Arsenal legend Thierry Henry says that he is leaving Sky Sports in order to give himself every opportunity to become a manager.

Thierry Henry has announced that he is ending his three-year spell with Sky Sports.

The Arsenal legend has been combining his media commitments with his role as assistant to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez and has just spent the last month-and-a-half at the World Cup.

The Frenchman's experience in Russia has seemingly led to the 40-year-old opting to focus more time on the training pitch, resulting in his exit from the broadcaster.

On social media, Henry said: "Over the last four years, I have had some extremely rewarding coaching experiences in football. These experiences have only made me more determined to fulfil my long-term ambition to become a football manager.

"It is with sadness, therefore, that I have decided that I must leave Sky Sports to enable me to spend more time on the pitch and concentrate on my journey to achieving that goal.

"I would like to thank everyone at Sky for making me feel so welcome and at ease throughout my time with them and I wish them all the best for the future. Great memories."

Henry had previously been linked with the Arsenal job, but Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium earlier this year.
