Sunderland boss Simon Grayson says that defender John O'Shea has agreed to sign a new one-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has revealed that defender John O'Shea is staying at the Stadium of Light.

O'Shea has spent the last six years in the North-East but with the end of his contract coinciding with the club's relegation to the Championship, it had been suggested that he would leave the Black Cats during the summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were one team who were linked with his signature, but it has now been confirmed that he is remaining with his current side.

The news was revealed at a press conference to unveil Grayson, who agreed to become Sunderland's new manager on Thursday evening.

O'Shea - who turned 36 in April - has made 208 appearances for Sunderland in all competitions.
