Stoke City skipper Ryan Shawcross admits to being disappointed with the behaviour of his teammates following a row over who would take the late penalty against Brighton.

Ryan Shawcross has labelled his teammates "childish" following the penalty-kick spat that marred Stoke City's 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

A controversial late penalty awarded to the Potters was spurned by Charlie Adam, who had to see off complaints from Jese Rodriguez - the player who won the spot kick - before stepping up from 12 yards.

Stoke captain Shawcross was not happy with the behaviour of Jese in particular, but claims that the incident has been dealt with and is something that will not arise in the future.

"There seems to be some confusion over who takes the penalties," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "The gaffer has told us in no uncertain terms, it won't happen again.

"It's difficult in those circumstances, but we are professional athletes and it's a bit childish, to be honest."

Stoke are down in 19th place following the home draw with Brighton, two points adrift of safety.
