Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay 'in excess of £50m' to sign Leicester City attacker James Maddison this summer, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly have to come up with an offer 'in excess of £50m' in order to sign Leicester City attacker James Maddison during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old is preparing to leave the King Power Stadium this summer, with the Foxes unable to keep hold of the England international following their relegation to the Championship.

Tottenham, alongside Newcastle United, are said to be the favourites for the attacker despite previous suggestions of interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

According to The Telegraph, incoming Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou has made signing Maddison 'a priority' this summer, with the club prepared to back their new manager.

However, the report claims that Leicester will refuse to let the attacker leave in a cut price-deal, with the club wanting an offer 'in excess of £50m' before agreeing to sell him.

Maddison was in impressive form for Leicester during the 2022-23 campaign despite the team's struggles, scoring 10 goals and registering nine assists in 30 outings in the Premier League.

The playmaker only has one year left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium, meaning that the Foxes are not in a strong position to negotiate a high price.

However, Leicester allegedly believe that over £50m is a fair valuation for Maddison considering 'his statistics, position and home-grown status'.

Norwich City are also said to have included a 15% sell on-clause in the deal that took the attacker to Leicester in the summer of 2018, meaning the Canaries will receive a healthy sum if a big-money sale goes through.

Maddison has represented his current side on 203 occasions in all competitions, scoring 55 goals and registering 41 assists in the process.

The playmaker also has an impressive Premier League record for the Foxes, contributing 43 goals and 34 assists in 163 appearances in England's top flight.

Tottenham are expected to be active during this summer's transfer window despite missing out on European football for the 2023-24 campaign.

Meanwhile, the club have included Harry Kane in their kit launch for next season, fuelling suggestions that the England captain could remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite being heavily linked with an exit.

Spurs are also looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer and have allegedly been in touch with Everton to discuss a move for England's number one Jordan Pickford.
