Kieran Trippier expresses his 'anger' at Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy offering him to other clubs before his departure to Atletico Madrid in 2019.

Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier has taken a swipe at Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy following his departure from the club in 2019.

The England international completed a £19.8m move to Atletico Madrid weeks after featuring in the Champions League final with Spurs, whom he originally signed for from Burnley in 2015.

Trippier became La Liga champion with Diego Simeone's side in the 2020-21 season before completing a return to the Premier League with Newcastle, but the 31-year-old has opened up on his 'anger' at Levy's approach to his exit.

"What annoyed me ... as you know, people in football speak and there are always rumours, but I know 100% for a fact – and this is what I was most angry about – that two months before the end of the season, Daniel was offering me to other clubs," Trippier told Alan Shearer during an interview for The Athletic.

"I knew for certain that was happening, so I knew my time there must be up. I was playing for my team-mates and the supporters, but I also knew I wasn't wanted."

Trippier registered two goals and 24 assists in 114 appearances for Spurs before departing for Atletico, starting 28 La Liga games in their triumphant 2020-21 campaign for his first piece of club silverware.
