Goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane hand Tottenham a 2-1 win over London rivals Fulham to secure their joint-best ever start to a Premier League season.

Tottenham Hotspur have extended their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season courtesy of a 2-1 victory over London rivals Fulham this afternoon.

Goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane, the latter of whom moves clear of Andy Cole as the outright third-highest scorer in Premier League history, were ultimately enough to secure another three points for Antonio Conte's side, despite Aleksandar Mitrovic continuing his prolific start to the season by pulling one back.

The result means that Spurs have now made their joint-best start to a season in the Premier League era, taking 14 points from a possible 18.

In the end, the one-goal victory flattered Fulham somewhat, with Spurs registering 23 shots - including 10 on target - but coming up against a stubborn Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal.

Son Heung-min came close to ending his goalless start to the campaign when he had a goal disallowed and then struck the woodwork, while Richarlison missed a string of chances and also had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside late in the match as his search for a first Spurs goal went on.

Spurs ultimately found the breakthrough five minutes before half time when Hojbjerg finished a slick team move with a low finish into the bottom corner from inside the box.

Kane then doubled that advantage with a simple finish 15 minutes from time - a goal which saw him draw level with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the players with the most goals in Premier League London derbies.

The closing stages were made tenser than they perhaps might have been when Mitrovic pulled a goal back for the visitors - his sixth of the season already - although for a moment Spurs thought they had restored their two-goal advantage when Richarlison saw his strike ruled out.

Conte's men were able to see out the victory, though, temporarily lifting them up to second in the table, just one point behind leaders Arsenal.
