Dele Alli has insisted that he is "happy to play anywhere" for England ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday.

New England manager Sam Allardyce has indicated that he plans to follow Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho's lead in playing captain Wayne Rooney in a number 10 role, a position also favoured by the 20-year-old.

"Everyone likes a bit of competition," Alli told reporters. "I'm going to keep working hard and I will be happy to play anywhere for the country. I'm young and would like to play anywhere. If the manager chooses Wayne to play in the number 10 role then that's not my decision to make.

"I will take it and keep working hard. I'm not really bothered where he puts me, I'm just happy to be out there to help my country."

Alli, who was part of the England squad to be ousted from Euro 2016 by minnows Iceland this summer, has 12 senior caps to his name.
