Spain number one David de Gea admits that it is "a bit strange" to now be without the presence of Iker Casillas in the national team set-up.

David de Gea has admitted that it is "a bit strange" to be without Iker Casillas in the Spain set-up.

Casillas was Spain's number one goalkeeper between 2000 and 2016, but De Gea was given the nod for Euro 2016 and the Manchester United stopper has started Julen Lopetegui's reign as the undisputed number one.

Lopetegui decided not to call the 35-year-old into his first squad for the matches against Belgium and Liechtenstein, and De Gea has claimed that it is a strange feeling to be without the now Porto goalkeeper.

"It's a bit strange to be here without Iker, he was the captain for so long," De Gea told AS.

Pepe Reina and Adrian were the two goalkeepers selected alongside De Gea in the latest Spain squad.
