Southampton considering Shaqiri move?

Southampton boss Mark Hughes is reportedly keen on a reunion with Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri if he is provided with a long-term contract at St Mary's.

Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri has emerged as a potential summer transfer target for Southampton.

Shaqiri arrived in English football in 2015 and has netted 14 goals in 77 Premier League appearances during his time at the bet365 Stadium, but the Potters are currently trying to retain their place in the top flight.

The Swiss international would be unlikely to remain with Stoke should they suffer relegation to the Championship and it appears that one club are already considering an approach for the 26-year-old.

According to the Daily Star, new Southampton boss Mark Hughes - who was sacked by Stoke in January - is keen on a reunion with Shaqiri providing that the Saints remain in the Premier League.

Shaqiri has just over two years remaining on his contract, and Stoke's hand could be forced if Paul Lambert is unable to move the club outside of the bottom three.
