Southampton hand a new three-year contract to 18-year-old midfielder Callum Slattery, keeping him at the club until 2020.

Southampton have confirmed that midfielder Callum Slattery has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

The 18-year-old made 15 appearances for Southampton's Under-23 side last season and has been involved in training with the first team in pre-season as new boss Mauricio Pellegrino assesses his squad.

The Argentine has seen enough to sanction a new contract for the youngster, who has put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at St Mary's until 2020.

"The new manager has come in and you always want to impress and do the best that you can. Hopefully he can see a bit of talent in me and I can be with them for longer," Slattery told the club's official website.

"It was very positive last season. Being with the under-18s and stepping up to play in the under-23s is a big step in the game.

"It was good for me to end the season with them and know that I was in and around that team is a good thing. For now, I'm focused on me playing football and just doing my best to see where I end up."

Southampton will begin the new campaign at home to Swansea City on August 12.
